In April 2025, Appian began providing privately funded structural assessments and designs services to Western NC residents for both home elevations and small bridge replacement.

One of only two firms chosen by the NC Department of Emergency Management, a joint venture team comprised of Summit Design and Engineering Services, Appian Consulting Engineers, and Insight Planning and Development will assist in the assessment of half of the 73,000+/- homes and commercial buildings in Wester NC lost or damaged as a result of Helene's historic flooding. The storm passed through the mountains of NC on September 27th, 2024. Following a favorable assessment, our team will then assist in providing elevation design services for many of these homes. Field assessment began at the end of September 2025.
